THE ART OF BONSAI: JAPAN TO HIGHLIGHT EUROFLORA 2025

Master Naoki Maeoka will be a distinguished guest. The Bonsai Art School will present an exhibition of exceptionally beautiful and large-scale bonsai. Visitors can also view prints from the Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art within the City of Genoa’s pavilion.
Discover the secrets of the ancient art of bonsai at Euroflora 2025. Master Naoki Maeoka will be in Genoa next April, a guest at the 13th edition of the International Flower and Plant Exhibition, scheduled from April 24th to May 4th. This amazing technique of miniaturizing a tree to create a perfect representation of nature in a small pot, has a very long history, dating back to ancient China in the sixth century. Within the picturesque setting of Euroflora 2025, Master Maeoka will lead workshops and demonstrations in the Tamerice Arena (Jean Nouvel Pavilion, first floor) from April 26th to 29th (2:30 PM – 6:30 PM). Subsequently, from April 30th to May 4th, national Bonsai Art School instructors will continue these demonstrations, engaging with attendees. A concurrent exhibition of Italian bonsai and monumental specimens from a Swiss collection will also be held. Maintaining the Japanese theme, the city of Genoa’s exhibition, curated by ASTER within the Palasport, and inspired by the four seasons, will feature reproductions of Japanese floral prints from the Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art.
Euroflora 2025 presents a grand display of beauty and sustainable practices, showcasing 152 global gardens across 85,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibition space with a stunning sea view. Organized by Porto Antico di Genova, this thirteenth edition stands as Italy’s sole event recognized by the AIPH International Association of Horticultural Producers
From Friday, April 24th, to Sunday, May 4th, in the former fair district, now transformed into the Waterfront di Levante through a significant urban redevelopment project designed by Renzo Piano, the excellence of leading Italian and international floriculturists, innovative landscape architecture projects focused on environmental sustainability, “green” tourism initiatives, and cutting-edge technologies directly from the research sector, including the Italian Institute of Technology, will be showcased.
A 4-kilometer immersive experience awaits, with 10-meter origami sail structures guiding visitors through the urban park, Palasport, Piazzale Mare, floating Marina exhibits, and the two-story Jean Nouvel Pavilion.”
The event will feature four dedicated ‘Arenas’ for shows, concerts, floral design displays, and discussions with prominent scholars and figures. Furthermore, 254 competitions will be held to recognize the excellence and aesthetic appeal of the exhibits, with evaluations conducted by over 100 industry experts on April 23rd.
The best floricultural products ‘Made in Italy’ will be on display, in a tour around Italy, with the important participation of the Liguria region, and with other region’s presence, like Piedmont, Tuscany, Marche, Campania, Puglia and Sicily. Collective and individual presences, universities, parks, and the direct participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty will also be present.
Among the new features, the Egyptian Museum of Turin presents its ‘Garden of Pleasure’. The event boasts a substantial international lineup, with returning favorites like the Exotic Garden of Monaco, famed for its succulents, and Spain’s horticultural hub, Murcia. Thailand joins from Asia, and Bhutan makes its debut, unique for its focus on Gross National Happiness. Daily bonsai workshops will be led by Master Naoko Maeoka. At Euroflora, within the Liguria Region’s spaces, a section dedicated to the great Italian hybridizers will also be found.
